“Engage, Inspire, Achieve”

Nursery

Week beginning 11.11.19

Nursery are learning all about animals and patterns. Our story of the week was Elmer the Elephant. The children explored pattern through making their own Elmer elephants using different colours and materials. Nursery also used the 'Linking Elephants' to make a repeated pattern. Our Elmer tray encouraged the children to match numeral with quantity. The children developed their fine motor skills through transferring the correct number of pom poms into the numbered trays. In phonics we continued to learn all about animal sounds. The children are great at recognising different animal sounds and have enjoyed pretending to be different animals.

Playing at Home

We would love to hear about what your children have been playing with at home. Please upload an entry onto tapestry of them playing with their favourite toys. This will really help us when we are observing and planning for your child during focus week.

Week beginning 07-10-19

This week Nursery have been learning all about their senses. Today we spoke about our sense of taste and the children learnt how to brush their teeth properly. Nursery learnt a song teaching them how to brush their teeth (attached below). We also spoke about foods that make our teeth rot and how to make healthy food choices. Every child had the opportunity to brush some teeth following a simple set of instructions. The children are mark making a lot more in the environment. Some have challenged themselves by drawing pictures of their hands, eyes, ears noes and mouths.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Miss Grant

Focus Week

Now the children are settled, focus weeks have started. This is a chance for you to see an extended observation of your child. From this observation there will be a specific next step for your child to achieve. We will then post a following observation where we encourage your child to reach their next step. These observations will be clearly labelled so you know it’s their focus observation.

Week beginning 30.09.18

Nursery have been practicing counting up to 10 objects using one number name for each. We have been learning the song, Ten Little Teddy Bears to help us with our counting. Number rhymes  help the children understand number, counting and addition. Some children challenged themselves by lining up and counting teddy bears beyond 10. This week we read the story The Stick Man. The children used their creative skills to design their own stick man for the story telling corner. The children love spending time in our story telling corner. They sing familiar ryhmes and tell stories with each other. Finally, it is diversity month and Nursery are learning about different cultures and beliefs. Today we had a picnic with a range of dolls and celebrated different religions and beliefs.

Nursery have had an exciting week learning all about Rosh Hashana! some activities included: Tasting apples and honey, spreading honey on toast and printing apples. The children were keen to learn about how honey is made and challenged themselves by making honeycomb and bees out of playdough. The children love role playing in the home corner. This week they mixed honey in different size bowls and shared it with all of their friends.

Please try and go on an autumn walk with your children. If you could collect twigs, leaves and conckers and bring them into school we would love to use them for activities.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy new year.

Week beginning 16.09.19

Nursery have had so much fun this week!

We introduced the story Owl Babies and worked together to recreate the story. Some children enjoyed making nests for the owls, others created owls using playdough. I was particularly impressed when Nursery were able retell parts of the story using open ended resources and toy owls. In Phonics we have been using our 'listening ears' to identify sounds in the environment. The children were encouraged to identify different sounds and find the matching picture.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Grant
