Challenge of the week!
Use a camera or a phone to take pictures of different signs that you see in the environment.
Environmental print provides lots of opportunities for children to interact with letters, sounds, and words. Children can also from a discussion with you about what they can see. For example they might describe the colour, pattern or shape in the Logo or sign. You can find a range of environmental print some of these include:
- Cereal boxes. See if your child can recognise any letters or familiar sounds in the Logo. They could cut out any familiar letters or words to create their own collage.
- Road signs. What shapes and patterns can your child see? Can they spot any familiar letters?
- Empty food packaging such as crisp packets.
- Supermarket signs. Can your child recognise any letters in the Logo?
I can't wait to see your learning on tapestry! For some more play based activities linked to environmental print please see the home learning activity grid below.

Superhero Challenges
I know that some of you are enjoying role playing superheroes so I thought you could try some superhero challenges!
- How many start jumps can you do in a minute?
- Show someone your three favourite superhero poses.
- Create your very own superpower with a matching item. For example you might want to make your own cape so you can fly. Or a mask for your lazer vision.
-You will need a hideout for your superhero. Why not use a large cardboard box and decorate it.
I can't wait to meet the superheroes!

The children had so much fun for Purim learning day! they joined in with the parade and made their own shakers. Some of the children enjoyed dressing up and performing Purim songs! This week the children read the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They have been retelling the story and making their own bears.

Week beginning 02.03.20
The children have had such a fun week learning the story of The Gingerbread Man. I introduced the children to reading a story map. This helped them retell the story with each other. We tried lots of activities relating to the story. The class favourite was creating our own gingebread men with playdough. The childrens number skills are really developing. This week Nursery learnt how to match numeral with quantity. Nursery made a gingerbread man, selected a number and transferred the correct number of buttons. Nursery also completed a game on the interactive whiteboard where they had to count the number of buttons on the gingebread man and find the corresponding number.
Week beginning 24.02.19

The children have come back eager to learn and try new ideas. I am so proud of Nursery. Every child can write their name and have developed independence in accessing resources in the classroom. This week the children have developed interest in representing number. They have been drawing different marks and counting them. Some of these pre writing marks have included: circles, lines and dots. We will be continuing to develop this over the next few weeks.

Silly Soup Phonics in action!
Our sound of the week was t. The children had to find different objects beginning with t and mix them in our silly soup! every child had a turn and were very good at hearing and saying the initial sound for each object. This is our Silly Soup song:
"We're making lots of silly soup
we're making soup that's silly
we're going to put it in the pot to make it nice and chilly!"
At home you could practice games such as eye spy to support their understanding of initial sounds.
Have a fantastic weekend,
Miss Grant

Week beginning 27.01.20
A very busy and exciting week for Nursery! The children are enjoying their phonics sessions. They particularly love singing from our Amazing Alliteration Book! Nursery now recognise the initial sounds in their names and can also select different objects beginning with the same sound. We mixed together a range of objects beginning with the sound m in our 'Silly Soup'. The children have enjoyed learning in our outdoor space. They have challenged themselves by building obstacle courses and moving safely across them. Some of the children have spent a lot time in the builders yard and have made meaningful marks through their role play scenarios.

Our highlight of the week was meeting Bee-bot. The children have been learning about positional and directional language. First they drew different places on a large piece of paper. Then they had to navigate Bee-bot around the maze by pressing the different buttons. Every child had a turn and enjoyed watching the Bee-bot travel to the places they drew!

The children have had fun learning about space and trying lots of new activities. The class favourite was creating their own wish stars. We also spoke about the difference between day and night time and the children were able to order familiar events. Alongside learning about rhythm and rhyme the children have begun to learn a sound a week. So far we have learnt the sounds: s, m and a. Some children are now beginning to form the letters in their name! It would be great if you could practice this at home in a fun way. Here is a list of some ideas:
1- Using a cotton bud and paint to form the letters.
2- Use finger to mark make in a tray of Salt
3- Manipulate playdough into letters.
It is important to develop strength in those hand muscles. Playdough is fantastic for manipulating and developing fine and gross motor movement.
