“Engage, Inspire, Achieve”

Year 1

Week 12- W/C 28.11.22

We had a lovely, creative week in Year 1 this week.

Maths – This week we explored place value (tens and ones), we also estimated and compared numbers to 20. Next week we will order numbers to 20 and introduce doubling and halving.

English- This week we looked at rhyming words and made changes to the original poem “What’s in the toy box?” We worked so hard to find rhyming words and wrote our own versions of the poem.  Next week we will start a new story and will focus on question words, punctuations (?, !) and verbs (doing words).

History- We compared school in the past (1950’s) and school today. We realised that school in the past was very different, children wrote on black boards, learnt different subjects and teachers were very very strict.

PSHE- We looked at different types of families and we understand that families can include different people. We also discussed that we can talk about our families with people that we know and trust. We understand that certain information about me and my family is personal.

Reminders:

*Please read with your child and sign in their reading record at least 3 times a week.

*Please make sure your child’s uniform, coats, gloves, hats, earmuffs, snack boxes, water bottle are labelled.

Have a great weekend and Shabbat Shalom.

English- Our lessons this week were linked to anti-bullying week. We read the book ‘One’, used acting and speech/thought bubbles to understand what bullying is, how it feels like being bullied and how we can reach out and stop bullying. We also had an amazing ‘house’ activity on Thursday and Friday. We worked in mixed groups, Year 1-6, and created an animation which tells the story of a bully, the victim and the role of the bystanders in standing up and reaching out.
