Admissions for School Year 2021-22: Criteria for demonstrating Jewish Practice

The current restrictions on public worship present problems regarding the arrangements in our published Admissions Policy for the school year September 2021 -2022.

The information below, which should be read in conjunction with that Policy, sets out how governors will assess which applicants will count as “Priority 1 Sibling” in the over-subscription criteria.

The following provisions, additional to what is in the policy, will apply for this calendar year only:

  1. Applicants with a sibling in Reception – Year 6 and children in Nursery who have previously accepted a place at Clore Shalom as a Priority 1 applicant do not need to provide new evidence of Jewish practice.  The practice of the family as verified on the previous application will be deemed not to have changed.
  2. For other Priority 1 applications, virtual attendance at synagogue services, as officially verified by that synagogue, will be deemed equivalent to attendance in person. If your synagogue is unable to confirm your attendance, you should take a screenshot of any services attended, preferably with family members next to the screen and show the date that the photo was taken.  These photos should be sent together with your Certificate of Religious Practice - please do not send in individual photos as we are not able to allocate them to your application if not sent in together.  If you are unable to send your CRP to your synagogue for signature, again please keep photographic evidence.

These provisions apply to all new applications made by 15 January 2021 for Nursery and Reception for September 2021. They may be extended or amended beyond that date by decision of the Governing Board. They do not affect any arrangements put in place by other traditions in relation to “Priority 2” applications.

This information, and any subsequent extensions or alterations, will be published on the school website, communicated to Hertfordshire County Council, and sent to relevant stakeholders.

Agreed by the Clore Shalom Governing Board at its meeting on 14 July 2020
