Ideas for Physical Exercise

The Ladder Challenge

How long does it take to run through the ladder 10 times?

What you need:
•6 x socks
•2 x markers
•1 x timer

•Place a marker on the ground.
•Stride 6 steps and place another marker on the ground.
•Make a ladder by placing 6 socks equal distance apart between the markers.
•Start next to a marker at one end and run through the ladder touching both feet down between each sock.
•Turn at the end and run back through the ladder.
•How long does it take you to run through the ladder 10 times?

•Always have adult supervision.
•Make sure the surface is flat.
•Make sure there are no obstructions.

The Catch a Ball Challenge

How many times can you throw and catch a ball against a wall in 60 seconds?

What you need:
•1 x ball
•1 x timer

Take 1 large step away from a wall.
•Stand facing the wall and throw the ball directly at the wall.
•You can use one hand or two and over arm or under arm throws.
•Catch the ball as it bounces off the wall and throw it again.
•How many times can you throw the ball at the wall and catch it again in 60 seconds?

•Always have adult supervision.
•Make sure the surface is flat.
•Make sure there are no obstructions.
•Make sure the ball is not too heavy.

The Speed Bounce Challenge

How many times can you jump side to side in 30 seconds?

What you need:
• 1 x flat object or line
• 1 x timer

• Place a flat object on the ground.
• Stand to the side of the object.
• Jump side to side over the object with both feet landing on the
ground at the same time.
• How many times can you jump over the object in 30 seconds?
• Always have adult supervision.
• Make sure the surface is flat.
• Make sure the object is flat, a sock is perfect.
• Make sure there are no obstructions.

The Target Challenge

How many socks can you throw in a bucket in 60 seconds?

What you need:
• 5 x pairs of socks
• 1 x bucket, box or hoop
• 1 x marker
• 1 x timer

• Place a bucket on the ground.
• Measure 5 strides from the bucket and place the marker on the
ground.
• Stand next to the marker and throw a pair of socks under arm in
to the bucket.
• Once you have thrown all the pairs of socks, run and collect the
socks and start again.
• How many socks can you throw in to the bucket in 60 seconds?
• Always have adult supervision.
• Make sure the surface is flat.
• Make sure there are no obstructions.
There are lots of great ideas and websites for exercising 

Ideas for physical exercise include:

  • Kicking a ball in the garden
  • Playing throwing and catching games
  • Set up circuits around the house e.g. jump on the spot 10 times, run upstairs to a bedroom, bend and pick up pieces of LEGO,
  • Use online Kids yoga (Cosmic Kids Yoga can be found on YouTube)
  • Supermovers on BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers or Just Dance (games on Playstation, Wii or similar or videos can be found on YouTube).
  • Riding bikes/Scooting to the park or in local area
  • How many times can you go up and down the slide/run between 2 places/starjumps etc in 1 minute?
