Welcome to Our School's Reading Spine
At Clore Shalom, we believe that reading is not just a skill, but a gateway to discovery, imagination, and personal growth. Our carefully curated Reading Spine showcases a diverse range of books that children will explore across English lessons, guided reading sessions, and PSHCE lessons. Each title has been thoughtfully selected to introduce students to a wide array of voices—featuring both timeless classics and fresh new authors. Through these stories, children will experience a variety of perspectives, cultures, and genres, fostering empathy and broadening their understanding of the world.
Our reading journey includes books that promote critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and creativity. These texts are chosen to align with our curriculum and help children make connections to their learning, while also encouraging them to be lifelong readers. The Reading Spine reflects our commitment to promoting both well-loved classics and contemporary voices, providing a balance of rich literary history and the exciting new diverse narratives shaping our world.
Beyond the classroom, we are passionate about fostering a love for reading. During library lessons, students participate in individual book reviews, where they can share their thoughts and discoveries. Our Headteacher's Book Club offers a platform for students to explore and discuss newly published works, ensuring they are always in touch with the latest and most exciting authors.
We also encourage reading for pleasure and recommend the various websites below that offer engaging book lists, reviews, and reading communities. These resources provide opportunities for children to explore new stories and connect with fellow readers.
